Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati is a grant-in-aid Institute of Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India and unit of Tata Memorial Centre (Mumbai). It is a 230 bedded hospital with state-of-the art facility for treatment of cancer. The Institute also conducts various academic courses and training programme. Approximately 12,000 new cancer patients and 80,000 old cancer patients visit the Institute every year. Eligible candidates apply on or before 12th January 2018.
Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) was set up by an intentional association called ‘Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Society Trust’. Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah (fourth September 1893 – 25th September 1956) was an awesome doctor, flexibility warrior and giver of Assam. In 1958 at an open gathering in Guwahati, a choice was taken to set up a disease healing center at Guwahati to recognize the memory of Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah. Late Dr. Kanak Chandra Borooah, famous sibling of Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah was the Founder Secretary. Late Bimala Prasad Chaliha, Debendra Nath Sarma, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury, Bishnuram Medhi, Dr. Ghanashyam Das, Dr Birendra Nath Choudhury and numerous others worked tirelessly from its beginning. The Institute was formally initiated on eighteenth November 1973 and wound up noticeably operational from 1974. The Institute was perceived as Regional Cancer Center by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India in the year 1980. On sixth of August, 1986 the Institute was given over to the Government of Assam by the B Borooah Cancer Society Trust holding its independence. The First Tripartite Agreement for rejuvenation of the Institute including the North Eastern Council, Government of Assam and the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India ended up plainly operational from November 1989. The Second Tripartite Agreement wound up plainly compelling from first April 1998 till 31st March 2004. The Third Tripartite Agreement including similar gatherings powerful from first of April 2004 for a long time. The assention was stretched out till 31 st March 2012 with North Eastern Council as nodal organization. The Board of Directors in its gathering held at New Delhi on 24 th February 2011 chose to go into 4 th Tripartite Agreement w.e.f. 1 st April 2012 to 31 st March 2017.
